You might be wondering that these cookies have an unusual name that you haven’t heard before but it carries a story with it.

The story goes, from way-back-when, that a housewife might look outside and see the local preacher riding out on horseback. Not wanting to welcome the preacher into the family home without putting out something to eat, a housewife might whip up a batch of these simple no-bake cookies that would be set and ready before the preacher knocked on the door.

It is a traditional recipe that tastes absolutely great. 

All the 90’s kids could relate to this more as this recipe was a part of our childhood and our grandparents used to prepare this every time, we visited them.

I never had the chance of trying these super tasty cookies packed with love in my childhood. 

A few days back, an old lady in my neighborhood visited me and brought these cookies with her. With a wide grin, she said I’ve had prepared these especially for you.

I was overwhelmed at her kind gesture and later that night, I presented those cookies to my family after dinner and they instantly fell in love with them. We finished all of it the same day.

Intrigued by the texture and taste, I knocked on the lady’s door the very next day and requested her for the recipe. To my surprise, her recipe did not involve baking and could be prepared in just a few minutes with the basic ingredients.

So, let’s start with the recipe.

How to Make Preacher Cookies?

These cookies do not require baking and need only a few minutes to set in. Most of the ingredients will most probably be available in your pantry. So just get them out and whip these delicacies together.

Ingredients Required

  • 3 cups quick oatmeal (Uncooked)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • ½ cup salted butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp butter

Time Required

Preparation Time – 30 minutes
Cooking Time – 5 minutes
Total Time – 35 minutes

Here are the steps involved in making this amazing dish:

  1. In a large bowl, pour some quick-cooking oatmeal and set it aside.  Roll out some wax paper onto your counter.
  2. In a medium-sized pot, add sugar, salt, butter, and milk. Turn up the heat at medium-high.
  3. Keep stirring as the butter melts and bring the mixture to a boil. Allow it to boil for a minute and then remove from heat.
  4. Pour this warm mixture over the oatmeal in the bowl and stir well until smooth.
  5. Then scoop dough and drop about a tablespoon on wax paper. Continue until you’ve used all the batter.
  6. If you want, gently smash down the cookies with your hand.
  7. Add chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe bowl.
  8. Microwave it in 20-seconds interval until the chocolate is melted. Make sure you stir after each interval.
  9. Drizzle melted chocolate over the cookies.
  10. Allow the cookies to cool completely and serve.

Some Important Tips

To give a flavor of chocolate to the cookies, you can mix some cocoa powder while boiling the cookie mixture in a pot.

If you don’t have a wax paper, you can drop the cookies on a plate and let it cool before serving.

Make sure you let these cookies cool at the room temperature or in the refrigerator before serving. This makes them settle and your hands won’t stick while picking them up.

You can store these cookies in an air-tight container and for future use.

If you want, you can add Nutella or other toppings of your desire to these Preacher Cookies. However, this is a traditional recipe.
